Resolving to make healthy living part of one’s lifestyle is a good way to start the year for Healthway Medical! To support such “fresh start” resolutions, Healthway Medical put up “Kickstart your Good Health” wellness fair on January 15, 2012 at the Carousel Court of Festival Supermall.

Bone screening, pedia consultation, dental check-up, cataract screening, and colon assessment were some of the free health services made available to mall-goers who participated in the wellness fair. Raffle prizes were also given away to participants. More than 15 merchants and companies who joined the event also gave away product samples and discounts.

Schneider Electric wins Prestigious Zayed Future Energy Prize

Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management, was recognised, on January 17, at the Zayed Future Energy Prize (ZFEP 2012) in the category of ‘Large Corporations’ for leading efforts in renewable energy and sustainability. General Sheikh Mohamad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, presented the award to Jean-Pascal Tricoire, President and CEO, Schneider Electric.

The fourth edition of the Prize was hosted on the sidelines of the World Future Energy Summit (WFES 2012) at the Emirates Palace Hotel, in Abu Dhabi. ZFEP also rewarded winners in the categories of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) & Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Lifetime Achievement awards for individuals who received a total prize fund of US$4 million which includes a $500,000 prize that will be awarded to High Schools in 2013.

 

Nokia Store offers Filipinos opportunity to purchase premium apps

Nokia, the global leader in mobile communications, marks another milestone as it partners with Globe Telecom to make its premium apps available for purchase for Globe subscribers.

Using the telco’s automated billing system, Globe subscribers using Nokia mobile phones and smartphones can now purchase premium games, apps, and other content from the Nokia Store much easier because costs will be charged to their postpaid phone bill or prepaid load account.

 

Smartphone use to rise sharply in 2012

Wireless leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) expects smartphone usage in the Philippine to rise sharply in 2012 given the growth momentum established late last year. According to Smart Chief Wireless Advisor Orlando B. Vea, the company has seen a doubling of the number of subscribers using smartphones in the last four months of 2011 due to the growing demand of mobile Internet and increased availability of devices.

“Our subscribers have responded very well to our attractive and innovative smartphone offers campaigns, particularly in the second half of the year. At the same time, our network modernization program which is far ahead of the competition, is already delivering a superior mobile internet experience to our subscribers today,” Vea said.

EMC reports record fourth-quarter and full-year revenue and profit

EMC Corporation reported record financial results for both the fourth-quarter and full-year 2011. For the fourth quarter, the company achieved all-time record quarterly consolidated revenue, net income and EPS on a GAAP and non-GAAP basis and all-time record operating cash flow and free cash flow. Full-year 2011 results were highlighted by all-time record consolidated revenue, net income, EPS, operating cash flow and free cash flow that each exceeded prior company outlook. The results were also highlighted by all-time record quarterly and full-year gross margins on a GAAP and non-GAAP basis.

Fourth-quarter consolidated revenue was $5.6 billion, an increase of 14% compared with the year-ago quarter. Fourth-quarter GAAP net income attributable to EMC increased 32% year over year to $832.0 million. Fourth-quarter GAAP earnings per weighted average diluted share increased 31% year over year to $0.38. Non-GAAP net income attributable to EMC for the fourth quarter was $1.07 billion, an increase of 16% compared with the year-ago quarter. Fourth-quarter non-GAAP1 earnings per weighted average diluted share were $0.49, an increase of 17% year over year.
