Advanced Integration Between EMC Data Domain Boost and Oracle Recovery Manager Provides a Faster, More Efficient Database Backup Solution

EMC Corporation (NYSE: EMC) today announced new EMC Data Domain Boost (DD Boost) integration with Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN). DD Boost software provides advanced integration between EMC Data Domain deduplication storage systems and applications for faster, more efficient backup and recovery. DD Boost distributes part of the deduplication process to the Oracle database server and enables RMAN to directly manage Data Domain replication. Tight integration between the Oracle RMAN native backup and recovery utility and industry-leading Data Domain systems gives Oracle database administrators (DBAs) complete control over their Oracle database backup and disaster recovery.

EMC reports record fourth-quarter and full-year revenue and profit

EMC Corporation reported record financial results for both the fourth-quarter and full-year 2011. For the fourth quarter, the company achieved all-time record quarterly consolidated revenue, net income and EPS on a GAAP and non-GAAP basis and all-time record operating cash flow and free cash flow. Full-year 2011 results were highlighted by all-time record consolidated revenue, net income, EPS, operating cash flow and free cash flow that each exceeded prior company outlook. The results were also highlighted by all-time record quarterly and full-year gross margins on a GAAP and non-GAAP basis.

Fourth-quarter consolidated revenue was $5.6 billion, an increase of 14% compared with the year-ago quarter. Fourth-quarter GAAP net income attributable to EMC increased 32% year over year to $832.0 million. Fourth-quarter GAAP earnings per weighted average diluted share increased 31% year over year to $0.38. Non-GAAP net income attributable to EMC for the fourth quarter was $1.07 billion, an increase of 16% compared with the year-ago quarter. Fourth-quarter non-GAAP1 earnings per weighted average diluted share were $0.49, an increase of 17% year over year.

EMC Expands Greenplum Big Data Analytics Appliance Family

EMC Corporation announced three new additions to its EMC® Greenplum® Data Computing Appliance (DCA) line of products – the High Capacity DCA, the High Performance DCA and the Data Integration Accelerator – and version 4.1 of Greenplum Database. High Capacity DCA and High Performance DCA join the first and award-winning Data Computing Appliance (announced in October 2010) to expand the EMC Greenplum family of lightning-fast data warehouse systems that leverage massively parallel processing (MPP) architecture to enable Big Data to be processed and analyzed significantly faster at substantially lower cost.  The announcement comes on the same day that SAS, the leader in business analytics software and services, said that it will expand its high-performance computingofferings with the introduction of SAS® High-Performance Analytics on the EMC Data Computing Appliance platform.

EMC Corporation, the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, announced that Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, a premier entertainment resort in Las Vegas, has implemented EMC® Avamar® deduplication backup software and VMware® virtualization solutions to centralize and streamline data backup operations and increase the efficiency of its information infrastructure through consolidation.

Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is in the midst of a major property expansion, increasing its number of guest rooms from 650 to nearly 1,600. Even as construction continues, the resort’s critical systems, such as 140 point-of-sale (POS) terminals that employees use to check in guests, make reservations for spa treatments and process payments for food, drinks and merchandise, still need to be up and running.
