Study shows Market Potential for mobile broadband, video and mobile Internet services in Philippines

• Market survey reveals 70% of the youth segment nationwide have knowledge of and use the Internet
• Half of market study respondents perceive Internet to provide opportunities and generate more income, while 60% perceive the mobile phone as a business enabler
• Consumers expressed strong willingness to pay for better quality of voice and Internet access

A recent market study conducted by Ericsson ConsumerLab shows that Philippine consumers perceive Internet connectivity to bring business opportunities and income, and that there is strong willingness to pay for better mobile and Internet services and access.
In a country with a mobile penetration rate of around 97% based on operator data, the study also reveals that subscribers have flagged the following as areas for improvement: network accessibility, quality of coverage and service, and stability as well as speed for Internet service.

While it is primarily the youth segment (mobile consumers aged 18-25) that appears to be most familiar with the Internet and with the benefits that connectivity can bring, Vishnu Singh, Regional Head of ConsumerLab for Ericsson in the Southeast Asia and Oceania region, reveals that “from the data we have gathered in our study, it seems there is a strong demand for Internet connectivity in the Philippines, particularly for mobile broadband. 66% of non-internet users are interested in using a internet related service on a mobile phone.”

 

Ericsson invites Filipinos to participate in Historic Worldwide Photo Event

Ericsson is the founding partner in the “A Day in the World” photography project, which aims to document moments from all parts of the world by professional and amateur photographers alike. The photographs will be collected online and later saved in the national archives of participating countries.

Together with Expressions of Humankind, a Sweden-based foundation who is behind the projct, Ericsson invites everyone on May 15, 2012, to take photographs to illustrate the energy of one single day.

This resulting gigantic photo collection will be given direction, structure and context, making it a relevant portrait of today, for tomorrow.

 

SMART and Ericsson announce partnership to create “SpeedLab”

Smart Communications and Ericsson recently announced that they have formed a partnership to create the “SpeedLab”, which will focus on creating SMART’s “Super Broadband” offer. This is envisioned to be the fastest and most reliable broadband service in the country, with the widest coverage and most innovative plan features.

“We will deliver broadband speeds never before seen in the country,” SMART Chief Wireless Advisor Orlando Vea revealed. “In line with our Internet for All advocacy, we also want to provide the best customer experience possible.”

 

Maersk Line and Ericsson bring mobile connectivity to the oceans

The oceans are the last “white spot” for mobile communication industry to connect. The world’s largest shipping company, Maersk Line, has appointed Ericsson to address this by introducing end-to-end systems integration and deployment of mobile and satellite communication to its entire vessel fleet.

The Maersk Line fleet comprises more than 500 container vessels. Over the next two years, Maersk Line will outfit 400 of these vessels with Ericsson antennas and GSM base stations, with upgrades to be made to the remaining vessels soon after. As part of the agreement, Ericsson will provide seven years of global managed services support, including 24/7 network monitoring and onboard maintenance services in a large number of ports across all major regions.
