Smart honored at VMobile’s Victor Awards

Smart Communications, Inc. Mobile Internet on the rise in RP, says Smart

Mobile Internet usage in the Philippines is growing rapidly, on the back of attractive smartphone offers bundled with mobile data.

First quarter mobile Internet revenues of leading wireless operator Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), for example, rose 71%, as reported by parent company Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT).

According to Chief Wireless Advisor Orlando B. Vea, the explosive increase in mobile Internet usage among Smart’s subscribers was driven in the first quarter mainly by a “solid portfolio of postpaid data plans bundled with best-in-class smartphones”.

Smart launched in the first quarter its limited-edition Data Plan 1000, which bundled free calls, SMS, and mobile Internet, with a choice from a slew of ‘power’ smartphones from all the top manufacturers, at discounted and amortized prices.

 

Smart expands service channels in Mindanao

Stepping up its efforts to bring services closer to its growing subscriber base in Mindanao, Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) recently inaugurated in Cotabato City the region’s first Accredited Sales Center (ASC), a new service channel where subscribers can conveniently transact business, make inquiries, and pay their bills.

Operated by Smart’s trading partners, ASCs complement the existing network of about 100 Smart Stores – 15 of which are in Mindanao – and 4,700 Smart Money Centers nationwide.

In an unprecedented performance, mobile phone leader Smart Communications won three major awards from an influential Asian telecommunications industry magazine in Bangkok on Wednesday.

At the 15th Telecom Asia Awards, Smart was cited as the Best Emerging Market Carrier, its President and CEO Napoleon L. Nazareno was selected Telecom CEO of the Year and its pioneering mHealth program called SHINE or the Shared Health Information and Network Exchange won the Best Community Telecom Project. Smart was also one of the finalists in the Best Mobile Carrier category.
