HP and Sun Microsystems Sign Multi-year Partnership Agreement for Solaris on HP ProLiant Servers

HP and Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAVA) today announced an expanded multi-year partnership agreement that enables HP to distribute(1) and provide software technical support for Sun’s Solaris 10 Operating System on the HP ProLiant server and blade system platforms.

Under the terms of the new original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and support agreement, Sun becomes a strategic HP ProLiant OS distribution partner and Solaris is now elevated to the lineup of key operating environments for the HP ProLiant(2) platform. The new deal sets a course for the companies to work together to expand demand for both Solaris and OpenSolaris on both HP ProLiant servers and server blades into new markets.

HP announces 2009 HP Digital Print Awards

HP announced that the 2nd Asia Pacific and Japan HP Digital Print Awards 2009 is open for submissions. The HP Digital Print Awards programme was founded in 2008 to recognize outstanding print achievements and innovations, using HP Indigo presses in the print and packaging industries across Asia Pacific and Japan. The annual Award Dinner, where winning entries will be showcased, is being held in conjunction with the InfoTrends Digital Printing Seminar 2009 in Beijing on 11th May 2009.

Recognizing the need to provide platforms for printing and packaging industry professionals to showcase their work, HP has expanded this year’s contest to twelve categories:

Intel Demonstrates First Working 32nm-based Microprocessor

At a media briefing in San Francisco today, Intel Corporation discussed new milestones for 32nm manufacturing and progress toward future products. Earlier that day, in Washington, DC, Intel President and CEO Paul Otellini disclosed that Intel is making the largest-ever investment in a single process technology in the United States to support upgrades to advanced manufacturing facilities in the country and the move to its next-generation, 32nm chip manufacturing technology. Intel is investing approximately $7 billion in 2009-10 on 32nm manufacturing technology, raising the total by the end of that timeframe to approximately $8 billion (for 32nm investment in the United States).

Symantec Protects Information from Accidental Loss and Unauthorized Access

Symantec Corp. announced Symantec Endpoint Encryption 7.0, providing advanced encryption for desktops, laptops and removable storage devices. Symantec Endpoint Encryption offers a scalable security solution that prevents unauthorized access to endpoints by delivering strong encryption and access control technologies. Encryption and authentication are both transparent to the end-user, performed with minimal performance impact and delivered through a central management console, enabling central deployment and management of encryption to endpoints.

Customers are provided extended client support so more endpoints can be centrally managed. Symantec Endpoint Encryption now includes support for clients not managed by Active Directory. The new version includes Novell eDirectory client support as well as full management capabilities for non-domain clients. Furthermore, Symantec Endpoint Encryption obscures and protects access to disk encryption keys in memory (DRAM), dramatically increasing protection against cold boot attacks (an attacker with physical access to a computer is able to retrieve encryption keys after using a cold reboot to restart the machine).

SAP Asia Pacific Japan Grows Software Revenue by 23% in 2008

SAP Asia Pacific Japan (“APJ”) continued to outperform the business software market across the Region in 2008.

On a full year basis, SAP Asia Pacific Japan remains SAP AG’s fastest growing region with 23 per cent Software Revenue growth, to €594 million. Software and Software Related Services grew at 24 per cent for the year, to €1.192 billion. All revenue figures in this release are expressed in non-GAAP constant currency terms and all growth is measured against the previous comparable period.

While SAP APJ experienced difficult market conditions in the fourth quarter, growing Software and Software Related Services at 5 per cent, Total Revenue for the full year grew at 20 per cent, to €1.532 billion.
