New IT learning facility for OFWs set to open; OFW dependents share how technology changed their lives

mid a global financial crisis, three graduates of a computer literacy program known as “TULAY” (or “Bridge”) shared how technology has enabled them to keep relationships intact, promote a business and expand one’s horizons by simply crossing the digital divide.

The testimonials of Lilybeth Deronia, wife of a mechanical engineer based in Vietnam, Elizabeth Moran, an owner of a small business involving coco sugar, and Buhay Tan, an eighty-three year old grandmother who now uses Facebook to add new friends will be heard tomorrow morning at the OWWA building in Intramuros, Manila during the official launch of a new IT learning facility under the joint project of the Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration, Microsoft and the Blas F. Ople Policy Center known simply as “Tulay”.

Intel Demonstrates First Working 32nm-based Microprocessor

At a media briefing in San Francisco today, Intel Corporation discussed new milestones for 32nm manufacturing and progress toward future products. Earlier that day, in Washington, DC, Intel President and CEO Paul Otellini disclosed that Intel is making the largest-ever investment in a single process technology in the United States to support upgrades to advanced manufacturing facilities in the country and the move to its next-generation, 32nm chip manufacturing technology. Intel is investing approximately $7 billion in 2009-10 on 32nm manufacturing technology, raising the total by the end of that timeframe to approximately $8 billion (for 32nm investment in the United States).

Local Personal Care Company Taps SAP for Better Efficiency

Filipino-owned Human Heart Nature (Gandang Kalikasan Inc.) – the world’s first brand to offer affordable, 100% organic personal care products – eyes higher gains and increased efficiency with its adoption of the SAP Business One software. Gandang Kalikasan selected the SAP solution from Clerysys Philippines, Inc., a licensed SAP reseller.
