SMART slashes surfing costs with new mobile Internet packages

Prepaid subscribers of leading wireless services provider Smart Communications, Inc. (SMART) may now take advantage of the most affordable mobile Internet rates, with the Budget Surf and Daily Surf mobile Internet packages.

These bucket-priced packages enable Smart Buddy subscribers to use their cellphones to go and stay online to post photos and videos, update their blogs, chat or send emails, and browse through their favorite social networking sites at a fixed and low cost.

The packages also makes SMART the first mobile operator in the Philippines – a predominantly ‘prepaid’ market — to offer pay-as-you-go ‘data’ plans at the lowest-ever rate of as little as P.14 per minute, as more and more Filipinos take up the use of the mobile phone as a tool to conveniently access the Internet.

APC by Schneider Electric Wins Green Enterprise IT Award from Uptime Institute

APC by Schneider Electric announced it was selected as a winner in the Energy Efficient Products category of the 2009 Green Enterprise IT (GEIT) Awards, presented by the Uptime Institute and co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. Award winners were announced at a ceremony at Uptime Institute’s 4th Annual Institute Research Symposium: LEAN, CLEAN and GREEN, in New York City. Thomas L. Friedman, Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times columnist and best-selling author delivered the ceremony’s keynote address.

The GEIT Awards honor companies that have made significant strides in creating reliable, sustainable and energy-efficient data centers. APC’s InRow® cooling products with active response controls and integrated thermal containment was selected as a winner for its innovation and leadership in driving sustainability initiatives.

ABS-CBN Philippines launches High Definition with Sony HDC-1400 High Definition Portable Studio Cameras

ABS-CBN Philippines, Asia’s first commercial television broadcaster, has just announced its intention to acquire 24 Sony HDC-1400R HD portable studio cameras. ABS-CBN is upgrading its studio facility at Quezon City, north of Manila, from SD to HD and Sony was the obvious choice.

ABS-CBN owns the biggest cable network in the Philippines and is involved in the production of television programming for domestic and international audiences. They deliver content around the world to countries including North America, Europe and the Middle East.

The decision to upgrade to high definition was based on the increasing demand for high definition content from their domestic audiences and those that they export to around the globe. ABS-CBN is at the forefront of broadcasting in the Philippines and is the first to invest in Sony high definition studio cameras.

Canon bags Buyers Lab Awards’ MFP Line of the Year

Canon has received the prestigious Multifunctional Printers (MFP) Line of the Year Award from Buyers Laboratory Inc. (BLI), a testing and intelligence body in the imaging industry, for its imageRUNNER and imageRUNNER COLOR multifunction printers.

Canon has also won four End of Year Pick Awards for its MFPs.

The MFP Line of the Year Award is given to products that meet the strict standards of BLI and pass the rigorous two-month laboratory evaluation. The biannual “Pick” awards, meanwhile, recognize outstanding product performances in specific categories.

Canon’s MFPs were assessed based on their reliability, productivity, image and scanning quality, ease of use, connectivity attributes, and overall value.
