MAX Your Unlimited Mobile Internet Surfing on BlackBerry Only from Globe

Globe Telecom launches the first truly unlimited mobile internet surfing subscription offer for BlackBerry handset users—the Super Surf for BlackBerry MAX. The latest offering from Globe allows users to access not only websites covered by BlackBerry network such as Twitter®, Flickr®, Facebook® and Multiply®, but also sites that are not yet optimized on BlackBerry Access Point Name (APN) like YouTube®.

The current Super Surf for BlackBerry allows users to freely surf only on sites within the BlackBerry APN. Accessing sites not covered by the BlackBerry APN, especially those with video streaming, will cost the subscriber extra P5.00 for every 15 minutes of web browsing.

According to the World Bank’s Migration and Development Report, worldwide remittance levels reached US$316 billion in 2009 and are expected to increase at 6.2% in 2010 and 7.1% in 2011. An estimated 10 million Filipino migrant and contract workers remit US$17 billion annually.

Adobe Unveils Digital Viewer Technology for Magazines

Adobe Systems Incorporated has unveiled a new digital viewer technology that enables print publishers to bring stunning digital versions of their magazines to life. This new publishing software was developed with input from Condé Nast’s WIRED magazine, a publication that recently debuted a digital edition for Apple iPad, utilizing the new digital viewer technology. WIRED’s June issue Reader application, now available through the Apple iTunes App Store, is built using Adobe’s digital viewer software.

“Adobe’s work with WIRED has resulted in a digital magazine format that creates an immersive experience, allowing a publication’s unique content, look and feel and advertising to stand out in the digital realm,” said David Burkett, vice president and general manager, Creative Solutions at Adobe. “We aim to make our digital viewer software available to all publishers soon and plan to deliver versions that work across multiple hardware platforms. It’s safe to say that if you are already working in InDesign CS5, you’ll be well on your way to producing a beautiful digital version of your publication.”

Ambitious Intel® Atom™ Processor Plans, Products Outlined

Intel Corporation unveiled new products and features based on its low-power Intel® Atom™ processor family, including plans to further differentiate the popular netbook category and expand into several new market segments beyond its growing PC, laptop and server businesses.

In the past 45 days, Intel and its Atom™ processor has entered a variety of markets beyond the more than 50 million Intel-based netbooks sold in the past 2 years. Intel announced a processor and MeeGo* software win with Chinese carmaker HawTai Automobile for a future in-vehicle-infotainment platform; a greater than 50-times lower platform idle power reduction with Intel’s next generation Atom™ processor platform for handheld devices including smartphones; and a collaboration with Google*, Sony* and Logitech* to deliver a new Smart TVs experience powered by Intel Atom™ CE products and running Android*-based Google TV*.

Globe network build up supports thrust for quality customer experience

Globe Telecom continues to make inroads in network build up to provide unparalleled service to its customers across the Philippines.  To date, Globe has major investments in five international submarine cable systems, the biggest of which are Tata Global Network-Intra Asia Cable System (TGN-IA) and Southeast Asia Japan Cable (SJC) System with investments of $90 Million and $60 Million, respectively, to improve network performance and diversity. 

To support business customers for voice, data and international connectivity, Globe increased its network redundancy and capacity with the opening of the TGN-IA, the region’s first direct, point-to-point and express optical-fiber submarine cable.
