D-Link launches 3G-enabled PTZ internet cameras featuring 10x optical zoom

14 Aug

D-Link, the end-to-end computer networking solutions provider for consumers and businesses, introduced the D-Link SecuriCam DCS-5605/DCS-5635 Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) Network Surveillance Camera, a professional IP Surveillance solution which connects to a network for high-quality live video over the Internet.

Both cameras also feature support for 3GPP Mobile Surveillance, allowing users to view live video feed on the go from a compatible Internet-ready mobile phone or PDA with a 3GPP player installed. The DCS-5605 is Ethernet-enabled, while the DCS-5635 offers both Ethernet and 802.11n wireless interfaces.

“Targeted at the home users or small to medium enterprises, the DCS-5605 and DCS-5635 are small and handy internet cameras that can fit easily into any environment,” said Desmond Toh, Marketing Director, D-Link International Pte Ltd. “Yet, their powerful features, like the 3GPP support and the PTZ capability, allow them to offer modern conveniences to users who demand live video monitoring, no matter where they are in the world.”

High-performance surveillance solution in a lightweight package

Designed for the remote monitoring of the home, office and other spaces, the DCS-5605 and DCS-5635 feature precise high-speed motorized pan, tilt and optical/digital zoom for extensive monitoring and object tracking. The powerful 10x optical zoom delivers a high level of detail necessary to identify faces, license plate numbers and other important details that are difficult to distinguish using only digital zoom. They are also equipped with Infra-Cut Removable Filter (ICR) for clearer and better vision in low light environment. Both cameras are lightweight, tipping the scales at 810g and 855g respectively.

Advanced video encoding for maximum bandwidth efficiency

With support for security protocols such as WEP and WPA/WPA2, the DCS-5605 and DCS-5635 is able to establish secure connections to a wireless network. To maximize bandwidth efficiency and improve image quality, both feature real-time video compression in MJPEG, MPEG-4, and H.264 formats. The H.264 codec can reduce the size of a video stream by up to 80% compared to Motion JPEG. Thus, less network bandwidth and storage space is required.

Easy to install, simple to manage

Featuring an auto-start motion detector that can be configured to record and send email alerts when triggered, the DCS-5605 and DCS-5635 can record video to a connected PC or network attached storage device. It can also be scheduled to record at certain times throughout the day. Using D-Link’s D-ViewCam software, up to 32 network cameras can be managed.

In addition, both network cameras support the Universal Plug-n-Play feature, which allows computers running on Windows XP/Vista to automatically recognize the camera and add it to the network. Users can also sign up with one of the free Dynamic DNS services available on the web, which automatically assigns a name and domain to the camera, so they can remotely access the camera without having to remember the IP address.

Price & Availability

The D-Link SecuriCam DCS-5605/DCS-5635 Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) Network Surveillance Camera will be launched in September 2010.
