Lenovo and Enhanced Experience 2.0 brings PC Performance to a Peak

In anticipation for this year’s increased Windows 7 adoption among businesses and consumers, Lenovo recently launched Enhanced Experience 2.0 (EE2.0) for Windows 7. The second generation of the Windows 7 performance and optimization program is exclusive to Lenovo’s wide range of Think and Idea-branded personal computers (PCs) preloaded with Windows 7, and features faster[1] Windows start-up and shutdown time, robust security tools and rich web conferencing capabilities for business users.

Diverse Cable Systems Achieve Business Continuity

Having a solid Business Continuity Program in place to ensure quick crisis recovery and its investment in various submarine cable systems enables Globe to provide redundant and reliable connections to customers, especially enterprise clients who account for the bulk of international traffic. Among the latest cable links of Globe are the Unity Cable System that was activated in the third quarter of last year and the Tata Global Network-Intra Asia Cable System (TGN-IA) that started serving enterprise customers in 2009. The Unity Cable System is a Trans-Pacific cable that runs a span of 9,620 kilometers between Japan and the US. It has one of the lowest latencies across the Pacific and provides direct connections for internet traffic between Asia and the U.S. It has 960Gbps or a total of 96 10G wavelengths capacity making more bandwidth available to businesses.

Schneider Electric Acquires Summit Energy

Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management, announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire Summit Energy Services Inc., a leader in outsourced energy procurement and sustainability services to industrial, commercial and institutional enterprises.

Summit Energy provides its clients with services of energy procurement, risk management, market intelligence, data management and sustainability consulting.  It is employing more than 350 individuals based in 11 international offices across North America and Europe and serves client facilities in more than 90 countries.  Summit Energy is a fast-growing business, expected to generate sales of approximately $65 million for the current year with an EBITA margin above the Schneider Electric average.

Globe Launches 4G mobile

In a Philippine first, Globe announces a major expansion of its current 4G footprint by becoming the first carrier in the Philippines to launch the commercial roll out of 4G mobile technology. This rollout, the first phase of which utilizes the global standard HSPA+ or Evolved High-Speed Packet Access, will complement Globe Telecom’s existing 4G WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) network. The rollout of Globe 4G mobile network will provide its subscribers high speed broadband access with the added convenience of full mobility.

To date, Globe 4G mobile technology has been deployed covering sites across Metro Manila, which includes Marikina, Quezon City, Makati, Pasay, Las Pinas, Taguig and the City of Manila. By end-2011, Globe expects to increase its 4G presence dramatically with continued expansion planned into 2012.

Globe Telecom was recently recognized as of Southeast Asia’s top companies for its investor relations and dividend policies by the Institutional Investor Corporate Awards organized by institutional investment publication Alpha Southeast Asia.

Globe was lauded for Best Senior Management Investor Relations (IR) Support and Most Consistent Dividend Policy based on the results of the annual poll conducted by Alpha Southeast Asia, the first and only institutional investment magazine focused on Southeast Asia.

The networks of Globe Telecom, Bayan Telecommunications (BayanTel) and Digitel Telecommunications Philippines (Digitel) are now 100% interconnected in all areas of commonpresence and operations nationwide, following the commercial activation of the local linkagebetween the networks of Globe and Digitel in Lucena City and the rest of Quezon province.

The achievement of full interconnection between Globe, Digitel and Bayantel in all areas of common operations is a mandate from the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC),in compliance with Republic Act 7925, or The Public Telecommunications Policy Act of 1995. The law aims to create a universally accessible and fully integrated nationwide telecommunications network to encourage more infrastructure investments from the privatesector that benefit consumers.

South-East Asia Japan Cable (SJC) System Consortium Contracts with SubCom and NEC as Suppliers

The global consortium of telecommunications companies formed to build and operate the South-East Asia Japan Cable (SJC) system officially announces the start of the construction of the project that will link Brunei, China Mainland, Hong Kong, Philippines, Japan, and Singapore, with options to extend to Indonesia and Thailand. The SJC consortium has awarded the supply contract for the new international submarine cable system to two companies. First announced in December 2009, the cable was initially planned to be 8,300 km in length, linking 5 countries / territories. SJC’s length is now 8,900 km which could extend up to 10,700 km, linking up to 8 countries / territories while supporting an initial design capacity of over 15 terabits per second.

The SJC consortium is composed of Brunei International Gateway Sendirian Berhad (BIG), China Mobile, China Telecommunications Corporation (China Telecom), China Telecom (Hong Kong) International Ltd. (CTHKI, an Affiliate of China Telecommunications Corporation), Donghwa Telecom Co., Ltd., Globe Telecom, Inc., Google SJC Bermuda Ltd. (a subsidiary of Google Inc.), KDDI Corporation, Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel), PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia International (Telin), Telemedia Pacific Inc. (TPI), and TOT Public Co., Ltd. (TOT). With the strength of the investors to the project, the SJC will bring more available bandwidth to Asia to support future applications and next-generation technologies.

D-Link, one of the world’s largest suppliers of network products, has unveiled the D-Link DCS-1130L Wireless N Internet Camera. The newest member of their IP Surveillance Camera range that is designed for home and SOHO users, the DCS-1130L is one of the brand’s first internet Camera to come with the mydlink.com feature. This innovative web-based application turns the internet Camera into a plug and play device, while allowing the Camera to be accessed and managed from anywhere via the mydlink portal.
