Mobile browsing now available for TM subscribers

With the increasing growth of mobile data in the Philippines, Touch Mobile (TM), Globe Telecom’s fast growing prepaid brand, has launched its very own mobile internet service. TM subscribers can now enjoy surfing the internet using their mobile phones at a very affordable rate.

For only P5 valid for 15 minutes of use, subscribers can now use their TM-powered phones to post status updates, send an e-mail, do research, upload photos, play online games, and download mobile applications. This mobile browsing service is the lowest browsing denomination available for mobile internet users today.

Globe partners with CENX to expand Carrier Ethernet presence

Globe Telecom, one of the leading telecommunications providers in the Philippines, announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with the Carrier Ethernet Neutral Exchange (CENX), operator of the world’s first and most connected Carrier Ethernet exchange. Globe has recently completed Ethernet Service Member Testing with CENX for its E-Line, E-LAN and EVPL services, and is now ready to offer these with a wider international Ethernet footprint.

“By becoming a member of CENX, we will be able to enhance the reach of our Carrier Ethernet services for the benefit of our customers, especially the BPOs and multinational companies,” said Jesus C. Romero, Head of Globe Business. Apart from having the most number of active Carrier Ethernet Exchanges, CENX will provide Globe with access to more than 15 million Ethernet Service Locations worldwide.

NorthgateArinso appoints new Country Manager for the Philippines

NorthgateArinso (NGA), the global provider of HR systems and services, has appointed Hans Montenegro to the position of Country Manager for the Philippines. Montenegro will spearhead the company’s growth in the region and have responsibility for all aspects of the company’s Philippine operations.

Initially hired as Director for Business Development in 2010, Montenegro has continuously demonstrated his commitment to the company and to the Philippine HR market through various initiatives. Media Tablet Market in APEJ to Hit 10x of 2010 Shipments by 2015

Media tablets will experience a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 54% in Asia/Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ) region, multiplying nearly ten times to 21 million units from 2 million units shipped in 2010. IDC expects more consumers to adopt media tablets to hit gaming, Web-browsing, and social networking needs on the go.

Mature countries like Korea, Australia, and Taiwan are showing high interest in mobile devices like media tablets while China continues to demonstrate high purchasing power for new tech products. Emerging countries in APEJ, like Indonesia and Malaysia by contrast, have more conservative attitudes toward media tablets, and still prefer mininotebooks with better keyboard input and a familiar user experience.

Globe proposes 3-year plan to reduce interconnection rates

In support of the National Telecommunications Commission’s (NTC) request for telecommunication companies to lower interconnection charges, Globe Telecom submitted a position paper detailing its proposal on reducing fees for subscribers calling and sending texts outside their respective networks.

In the position paper, Globe proposed a 3-year “glide path” implementation method beginning January 31, 2012 to allow mobile operators more time to restructure business plans and models given changes in pricing schemes, as well as to help cushion possible losses in revenues.

Sony Philippines’ BRAVIA for a Cause donation given to Phil Red Cross

Sony Philippines had met-up with Philippine Red Cross to donate the promised proceeds of the BRAVIA for a Cause Project. Senator Richard Gordon, the Philippine Red Cross Chairman, was the one who received the check, along with Ms. Anacletz Bandril, Director of the Philippine Red Cross Fund Generation Department.

Sony Philippines donated Php100 on every Filipinos’ behalf who bought any BRAVIA LCD TV within the time frame April 15 to May 15, 2011. Philippine Red Cross will then forward the donation to the Japan Earthquake Relief Operations.

Caltex Celebrates Diamond Birthday at Hospicio de San Jose

July 2 marked the 75th birthday of global iconic brand Caltex™, an occasion celebrated by former, retired, and current employees of Chevron Philippines Inc (CPI), marketer of the Caltex brand, with the elderly residents of Hospicio de San Jose in Manila.

In keeping with the diamond milestone, at least 75 CPI volunteers visited the Hospicio and partner with elders who were serenaded by the Caltex Chorale. Gift donations of items needed by residents also took place. The event is just one of the many activities CPI has lined up for the communities it cares for in connection with Caltex’s 75th Anniversary.

As part of its mission to make high speed Internet available to all Filipinos, leading wireless services provider Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) continues to roll out Evolved High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA+) technology to more key areas in the Visayas and Mindanao.

3G on Steroids
HSPA+ is an upgraded version of High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) technology. Based on the standards set by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), HSPA+ is the fastest form of 3G and Smart has been conducting tests since 2009.
