Dell Launches New Generation of Dell EqualLogic Storage Solutions

Dell announced new Dell EqualLogic storage solutions and supporting software to help customers address the data management requirements of increasingly dynamic, virtualized data centers. The company also released details of new integration across its storage portfolio with the forthcoming VMware vSphere 5 virtualization and cloud infrastructure platform.

“Organizations of all sizes continue to place a priority on boosting IT asset efficiency while improving IT responsiveness to business pressures. Ever greater exploitation of virtualization is a key element in these efforts, and the deployment of flexible and intelligent storage systems is frequently the key to successful efforts,” said Richard Villars, vice president of storage and IT Strategies at IDC.

Multi-Core Goes Mainstream, Computing Pushed to Extremes

Citing the impact of multi- and many-core computing hitting the mainstream and new developments in extreme scale computing as examples, Justin Rattner, Intel’s chief technology officer, told an Intel Developer Forum audience that the future of computing is being accelerated.

“Since 2006 Intel and the IA developer community have worked in partnership to realize the potential of multi- and many-core computing, with accelerating impact beyond high-performance computing to solving a wide range of real-world computing problems on clients and servers,” Rattner said during his Day 3 keynote in San Francisco.

Soldier SpyEyes a Jackpot: Facebook credentials are the most stolen

Trend Micro Incorporated, exposed a Russian national in his 20s who has been targeting users in the US and Asia. The attacker goes by the name “Soldier” in the criminal underground.

This specific attacker has been successful in increasing his network of infected users and has also and also has been known to buy traffic from other cybercriminals. Besides using malware to steal money from the compromised accounts, user security credentials were also stolen.

Globe is PHL’s Broadband Service Provider of the Year

Globe Telecom took top recognition as the country’s Broadband Service Provider of the Year by international research firm Frost & Sullivan for its outstanding performance in the broadband business in 2010.

The Broadband Service Provider of the Year award is conferred to service providers that have demonstrated exemplary growth in the broadband access service segment last year. Globe was evaluated based on revenue growth, category market share and growth in market share, leadership in product innovation, breadth of products and services, major customer acquisitions, and subscriber base and growth.

300 Canon EOS users get free advanced photography training

Three hundred Canon EOS camera users were treated to free specialized photography workshops by imaging leader Canon and some of the country’s top photographers during the first PhotoSkwela Pro at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall in Mandaluyong City.

“This event is an advanced version of PhotoSkwela designed to further improve the skills of our loyal Canon EOS users,” said Bong Serevo, Vice-President and Director of the Image Communications Products division of Canon Marketing Philippines, Inc. (CMPI). PhotoSkwela is a series of free workshops on basic and advanced photography, videography and scrapbook making.

Globe DUO, one of the biggest breakthrough services of Globe Telecom, has recently expanded its coverage to 13 more areas in the country to serve and benefit more subscribers.

The service is now available in the provinces of Pampanga, Isabela, Ilocos Sur, Zambales, Nueva Vizcaya, Palawan, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Southern Leyte, Eastern Samar, Western Samar, North Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat.

Dell Unveils New Bing Maps Boulder Microsite

Dell recently announced its work with Bing Maps to create a dedicated imagery processing microsite to support Streetside, Bird’s Eye, aerial and satellite image types provided by Bing Maps. Dell’s Modular Data Centers combined with Mellanox InfiniBand networking were the building blocks of the new highly efficient microsite.

“Our goal was to push technological boundaries, to build a cost effective and efficient microsite,” said Brad Clark, Group Program Manager, Bing Maps Imagery Technologies (BITs), Microsoft Corp. “We ended-up with a no-frills high-performance microsite to deliver complicated geospatial applications that can in effect ‘quilt’ different pieces of imagery into a cohesive mosaic that everyone can access.”
