Globe Telecom took top recognition as the country’s Broadband Service Provider of the Year by international research firm Frost & Sullivan for its outstanding performance in the broadband business in 2010.
The Broadband Service Provider of the Year award is conferred to service providers that have demonstrated exemplary growth in the broadband access service segment last year. Globe was evaluated based on revenue growth, category market share and growth in market share, leadership in product innovation, breadth of products and services, major customer acquisitions, and subscriber base and growth.
Frost & Sullivan used a rigorous judging process to select the recipient. Its analyst team shortlisted major companies, conducted a detailed market review to assess their performance, and recommended the top 3 to 5 companies based on the review. The contenders were then evaluated by an internal panel of judges using the analyst team’s findings, which led them to hand the citation to Globe.
In 2010, Globe Telecom’s broadband segment posted double-digit growth in subscriber base and revenue growth at 50% and 75%, respectively, from the previous year. In its second quarter disclosure this year, Globe declared that its broadband subscribers have gone up to 1.3 million, 39% higher year-on-year. The robust subscriber pick-up sustained revenue gains, with broadband service revenues up 42% to close the first half of 2011 at P3.6 billion, compared to P2.6 billion in the same period last year.
The growing demand for internet connectivity, the increasing affordability of access devices such as laptops and tablets, and the emergence of new technologies that enable faster browsing speeds continued to drive growth in the retail broadband business. Responding to this demand, Globe continued to strengthen its portfolio of broadband offers and launched a variety of broadband services under Tattoo Nomadic for subscribers who are always on-the-go and Tattoo@Home for users based at home with more stationary internet needs.
“We are honored to receive this citation from Frost & Sullivan. We have been bullish with our broadband business and rightfully so. We continue to gain momentum with our Tattoo product lines as the fastest-growing broadband brand in the country,” said Ernest Cu, President and CEO of Globe. “We will continue to invest in this category making sure that our customers get the best mobile and @Home internet experience.”
