Life for Ellaine Castronuevo has only begun to unfold. Like most 14 year olds, she has only started to get a taste of adolescence. But aside from having to deal with the daily struggles of a teenager, Ellaine has the challenge of defeating her own Goliath.
Ellaine has been diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia, a rare type of blood and bone marrow cancer that has also stricken Filipino Rap icon Francis Magalona.
Despite her condition, Ellaine faces life with great optimism and hope. Notwithstanding difficulties brought about by her treatments, she sees herself doing something great one day. That includes fulfilling her great desire to become a photographer– a wish Canon Marketing (Philippines) Inc. cheerfully granted.
Canon in partnership with non-profit organization Make-A-Wish® Philippines provided Ellaine with a PowerShot SX20 IS digital camera, and one-on-one photography lessons from Canon Brand Ambassador Sara Black to help her realize her dreams of becoming a photographer.
“Being part of such a great endeavor proved to be a very moving opportunity for us as well,” said Canon Marketing (Phils.) Inc. Corporate Communications Manager Margarita Escueta. “Canon has always been at the forefront of making a significant difference in the lives of others. It’s just amazing that photography has the ability to change lives forever,” she said.
Canon Marketing (Phils.) Inc. through its corporate social responsibility programs has actively supported initiatives in the areas of social welfare, environment, education and science, arts, culture and sports, and humanitarian aid and disaster relief.
