Accenture Wins 2012 BPO Company of the Year Award

Global management consulting, technology management and outsourcing company Accenture in the Philippines bags the International ICT Awards Philippines 2012 BPO Company of the Year Award in ceremonies held at the Marriott Hotel Manila last March 29, 2012. Over 500 guests from the country’s IT-BPO sector were present in this most prestigious sectoral awards jointly organized by the Business Process Association of the Philippines and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines.

Lito Tayag, Country Managing Director of Accenture in the Philippines, received the award on behalf of the Company’s approximately 24,000 employees. This is the second time in the Awards’ history that Accenture won the title, also being the very first recipient of the award in 2007.

Trend Micro zeroes in on Lucky Cat APT

Global cloud security leader Trend Micro, producer of threat management solutions for businesses and consumers, recently released a report linking China-based hackers to an an advanced persistent threat (APT) the security industry is calling the Luckycat campaign.

The Luckycat campaign has been active since at least June 2011. First documented by another antivirus company this year, the Trend Micro report showed a more detailed picture of the workings of Luckycat. It is a sophisticated cyber-espionage campaign that attacked a diverse set of more than 90 targets. The attackers used a variety of methods, some of which have been linked to other cyber-espionage campaigns and even tagged their attacks with campaign codes to measure success. Not only did the Luckycat perpetrators target military research in India as reported, they expanded the attacks to hit other sensitive entities in Japan, as well as India, including heavily targeted Tibetan activists.

ECCP to host workshop for Fuel Efficiency in cooperation with Bosch and CAI-ASIA

The European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) has partnered with Robert Bosch, Inc. and Clean Air Asia to host a workshop on April 19 at the Dusit Thani Hotel that aims to equip participants with the right knowledge and tools to improve fuel savings and vehicle reliability. At the end of the session, participants will also acquire a deeper understanding on ensuring vehicle safety through proper preventive maintenance systems and clean fleet management toolkit.

During this one-day session, Mr. Frederick Velasquez (Service Manager of Automotive Aftermarket, Robert Bosch Inc.) and a fuel savings expert from Clean Air Asia will tackle the energy efficient automotive technologies that are currently available for public use. Participants will see improvements to fuel consumption as a result of the said technologies and learn about its importance to a fleet’s fuel efficiency. There will also be a presentation on the benefits of having vehicles serviced on a regular basis as a vital part of fleet maintenance and care. Trainees will be learning about the proper timing for vehicle services, importance of each service done to a car, and most importantly, discover how to identify eligible automotive service workshops. New Broadband Commission climate report confirms technology is the key to a low-carbon future

Broadband can help transition the world towards a low carbon-economy and address the causes and effects of climate change, according to a new report just released by the Broadband Commission for Digital Development.

The Broadband Bridge: Linking ICT with Climate Action is the result of work conducted by the Broadband Commission Working Group on Climate Change, chaired by Hans Vestberg, President and CEO of Ericsson and comprising several members of the Commission, representing industry, international organizations, and NGOs. Smart opens Windows phones to more Filipinos

Nokia Lumia 610

Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) has beefed up its portfolio of smartphone offerings by introducing the country’s broadest line of Nokia handsets using the Microsoft Windows “Mango” operating system.

First in the line-up is the Nokia Lumia 710, now available for pre-order via http://smart.com.ph/lumia710. Smart has also announced that they will be offering soon the even more affordable Nokia Lumia 610 and the premium Nokia Lumia 900 smartphones.
