Protecting Businesses From The Energy Crisis

History proves that the demand for electricity goes up during the summer months. The increased use of cooling systems and other appliances in households contribute to this increase. Electricity needs of a growing number of small and medium enterprises catering to local and foreign tourists further add to the demand.

As a consequence, the capability of hydropower facilities to deliver the needed electrical power during summer is curtailed. If there is no power generation facility available to handle the loss of the hydro power plants from the grid, brownouts occur. Read the rest of this entry »

SkyCable’s best-value price plans key to increasing PH’s cable take-up

The country’s cable penetration rate or ratio of cable subscription to the country’s population is very low by international standards. Compare 15 percent versus neighboring countries Korea and Taiwan’s 80 percent and 90 percent, respectively.

Sky Cable, the country’s number one cable TV service provider, continues to further bring up the Filipinos’ take-up of cable service through its best value pricing plans. From introducing the first ever-prepaid cable TV service in the country in 2006, SkyCable Silver Prepaid, the company has expanded to include more affordable postpaid plans that have the most number of digital and HD channels versus any competitor. This is all made possible by digital cable technology, which SkyCable also pioneered in the country. Read the rest of this entry »

Visit global landmarks with photo tours in Google Maps

Every year, millions of people pack their bags and head to far-off places to enjoy sites and cultures different from their own. While there, they snap photos to document their trip and share their excursions online. Yet none of these individual photos captures the experience of actually being immersed in a specific location. With today’s introduction of photo tours, a feature of Google Maps that guides you through a 3D photo scene, we’re one step closer (video).

Photo tours are available for more than 15,000 popular sites around the world, from famous landmarks such as St. Mark’s Basilica in Italy to scenic treasures like Half Dome in Yosemite. They can be initiated from Google Maps in two ways. First, when you search for a place, such as Trevi Fountain, the results in the left panel will indicate if there is a photo tour available: click either the thumbnail image or the link to start the tour. Alternatively, if you’re browsing the map and click on the label for a particular landmark, the info window that appears will indicate if a photo tour is available. Read the rest of this entry »

Philippines: 2012 World’s Best Country in Business English

GlobalEnglish Corporation, the leading provider of cloud-based, on-demand software to advance Enterprise Fluency™ for global organizations, announced the results of its annual Business English Index (BEI), the only index that measures Business English proficiency in the workplace. The 2012 BEI shows that a lack of Business English proficiency is threatening the productivity of companies, industries and country-specific economies this year.

With a growing number of companies operating across ten, 15 or even more than 20 countries with different native tongues, the majority of the world’s business conversations now take place between non-native English speakers in English. The current shortage of talent with the aptitude to speak, present, write, sell and service customers in English has become a high-performance challenge for leaders of multinational companies at a time when more international business growth has been fueled through expansions in emerging markets.
