Cognizant opens second Delivery Center in the Philippines to support rapid growth


Cognizant, a leading provider of information technology, consulting, and business process outsourcing services, recently announced that it has expanded its presence in the Philippines with the opening of a new delivery center in Pasig City, Metro Manila.

The center, located in the IT-BPO services hub, Ortigas Center, will accommodate approximately 1,000 professionals, and will deliver a full range of applications, IT infrastructure, and business process services to global clients in the financial services, healthcare, manufacturing and logistics, retail, hospitality, telecommunications, and consumer goods industries.

Cognizant started operations in the Philippines in December 2009 to provide business process services to global clients, and has since grown to more than 700 professionals delivering a broad range of services from the company’s existing facilities in Manila. In April 2011, Cognizant won the prestigious Philippines’ International ICT Award for Best New BPO Locator of the Year. Cognizant is working closely with academia in the Philippines to develop talent across a full range of services, and has an active campus recruitment program in the country.

As part of its corporate social responsibility program, Cognizant is running several community initiatives. Key among them are conducting classes, setting up libraries, and organizing health camps in local schools to develop talent at the grassroots level. The company has also adopted Eusebio C. Santos Elementary School, a public school located in Taguig.

Toshiba and Intel Unveil ‘The Beauty Inside’ Global Social Film Project

Toshiba Singapore Digital Products & Service Group (DS) and Intel Corporation recently announced a creative collaboration to deliver a second social film project entitled “The Beauty Inside.” Additionally, a global, online casting call has been issued to audition for the part of the main character as part of the film experience.

Starring Topher Grace (“That ‘70s Show,” “Spider-Man 3” and “Valentine’s Day”) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter,” “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World”) and directed by Sundance award-winning Director Drake Doremus (“Like Crazy”), “The Beauty Inside” is a blockbuster-class experiment in social entertainment, brought to life by leading minds in Hollywood, technology and social media.

How techie are Pinoy kids

Cartoon Network, the leading kids’ entertainment channel, recently conducted a study called New Generations 2012 which provided insights on Filipino kids’ lifestyle preferences.

A relevant component of the study focuses on the attitudes of young Filipinos today towards technology, revealing that 99% of kids today still watch the television. The survey also showed that the top favorite online activity of young Pinoys is playing online games, with more kids preferring this compared to social networking or homework.

Volvo’s world-first City Safety technology further upgraded

Volvo introduces a pioneering preventive safety technology in 2008 called City Safety. This Volvo world-first technology was introduced as standard with the Volvo XC60 which helped reduced risk of rear-end collisions between a car and a Volvo.

Studies showed that 75 percent of all reported collisions take place at speeds of up to 30kph. In half of these cases the driver has not braked at all before the collision, mainly due to distraction. In these cases, City Safety could make a crucial difference. The Volvo City Safety System helps in completely avoiding collisions at low speed or at least substantially mitigating the consequences.
