Cebu Pacific Air to offer inflight Wi-Fi with OnAir


Cebu Pacific Air, the Philippines’ largest flag carrier, will provide OnAir Internet service to passengers in its Airbus A330 fleet starting in 2013. The airline also has the option to install Wi-Fi on its fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft, for short haul flights, in the next phase.

Once Internet OnAir is in service, Cebu Pacific passengers will be able to access the Internet during flights and make calls using Voice Over IP applications, using their Wi-Fi enabled personal electronic devices, such as Android™ phones and tablets, iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry, and laptops.

Schneider Electric Brings Solar Light To Payatas’ Classrooms

In September 2011, Department of Education Secretary Armin Luistro’s reported that as many as 9,000 public schools all over the country are still deprived of access to electricity. Students are taught in dark classrooms, places that are far from conducive to learning.

Schneider Electric (SE), the global specialist in energy management, believes in the importance of making good solar lighting available to the community. In light of its goal in helping public schools, SE chose the Payatas-C Elementary School (PCES), as the recipient of SE’s In-Diya Lighting Systems. Most of the students come from families who are impoverished squatters at the Payatas landfill.

Lenovo Targets Small and Mid-sized Businesses with New Do Machines


Lenovo launches a refreshed range of ThinkPad Edge, Lenovo Essential and ThinkPad notebook personal computers (PCs) powered by the new Intel 3rd generation processors and packed with features to boost business productivity, targeting local small and medium business (SMB) segment.

Based on the latest IDC data, Lenovo has captured the number 2 spot in the global PC market after achieving 12 consecutive quarters (3 years) of growth. The company is executing its “protect and attack” growth strategy to capture global PC market leadership. While protecting its position in the large enterprise market where it already has a stronghold owing it to its ThinkPad legacy, Lenovo is attacking the SMB market.

Sony Mobile receives four Red Dot Awards for Product Design

Sony Mobile Communications (“Sony Mobile”) recently announced it has received four 2012 red dot awards in the Product Design category, as well as one honourable mention. The jury of international experts evaluated entries against key criteria including the degree of innovation, ergonomics, durability and ecological soundness. The awards presentation ceremony took place in Essen, Germany on July 2.

“Design is at the heart of Sony Mobile’s product development philosophy and these awards are testament to the design quality of our Xperia smartphones and Smart Accessories, demonstrating our commitment to offering consumers a rich smartphone experience without sacrificing on functionality or design,” said Jeanna Kimbré, Director of Creative Product Design for Sony Mobile Communications.

WD Delivers System Storage to the Metro Manila Development Authority

Western Digital, a world’s leader in the design and manufacture of hard drives, recently announced their cooperation with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to provide 28 TB of WD AV-GP hard disk drives for an additional storage system for MMDA’s 24×7 operation.

One of the most critical services that MMDA offers is the Transport and Traffic Management, under the Traffic and Discipline Office. This division of the MMDA is responsible for overseeing traffic conditions as well as the enforcement of traffic rules and regulations all over Metro Manila. It has installed CCTV cameras over the main roads of Metro Manila to view live video feeds of traffic conditions in order to provide up-to-the-minute traffic advisories to motorists, using social media platforms, such as Twitter and Facebook, as well as through television.
