WD Delivers System Storage to the Metro Manila Development Authority

04 Jul

Western Digital, a world’s leader in the design and manufacture of hard drives, recently announced their cooperation with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to provide 28 TB of WD AV-GP hard disk drives for an additional storage system for MMDA’s 24×7 operation.

One of the most critical services that MMDA offers is the Transport and Traffic Management, under the Traffic and Discipline Office. This division of the MMDA is responsible for overseeing traffic conditions as well as the enforcement of traffic rules and regulations all over Metro Manila. It has installed CCTV cameras over the main roads of Metro Manila to view live video feeds of traffic conditions in order to provide up-to-the-minute traffic advisories to motorists, using social media platforms, such as Twitter and Facebook, as well as through television.

With the help of Western Digital and WD AV-GP hard drives, the need for reliable, quality storage for videos captured by MMDA’s traffic camera will no longer be a problem. Since requests for footage normally takes 2 weeks to get routed, it’s a welcoming change to have the MMDA’s storage capacity for CCTV traffic video archives increase from only 7 days before to 30 days now using the latest storage technology from WD.

“WD is excited to co-operate with MMDA on this project,” said Noel Timbol, Sales Manager of Western Digital in Philippines. “Today’s digital video surveillance systems demand the best performing, most reliable and high capacity hard drives to stream, playback and store the digital video. WD AV-GP hard drives deliver 24×7 quiet operation, low temperature, best-in-class reliability and unrivalled storage capacity that are ideal for storage-intensive AV applications used by the MMDA.”

WD AV-GP hard drives deliver smooth streaming, whisper-quiet acoustics; low-power consumption and thermally optimized operation for unparalleled reliability. With power reduction of up to 40 percent, WD AV-GP hard drives deliver cool and quiet operation and reliability that is perfect for surveillance video recording. Optimized for smooth, continuous digital video playback of up to 12 simultaneous HD video streams with SilkStream technology, the drives are perfect for mainstream surveillance systems.
