Globe, RIM unveil new promos for BlackBerry users on prepaid

17 Aug

On the back of increasing demand for BlackBerry® smartphones among prepaid users and affordable BlackBerry-specific data plans in the Philippines, Globe Telecom and Research In Motion (RIM), the makers of BlackBerry smartphones, partnered anew to introduce exclusive promos for prepaid subscribers available in authorized retail outlets.

For every purchase of a BlackBerry smartphone in any participating retail outlet, prepaid subscribers who avail of a one (1) month subscription to BlackBerry Chat at P99 will get additional two (2) months free. BlackBerry Chat allows subscribers to have unlimited access to BBM™ (BlackBerry® Messenger™), photo sharing and group chats anytime, anywhere.

On the other hand, Globe Prepaid subscribers who avail of a one (1) month BlackBerry Social subscription at P299 will get an extra month for free. BlackBerry Social gives subscribers unlimited access to Facebook, Twitter, BBM, and instant messaging applications.

Hastings Singh, Managing Director, South Asia at RIM said: “We are excited to partner with Globe to introduce these new attractive offers on all BlackBerry models for prepaid customers in the Philippines. We strive to offer choices to our customers so that they can choose the smartphone and a data plan that best suit their lifestyle. We believe customers will be delighted with these offers.”

“With our complete line-up of affordable data plans for BlackBerry users, we are taking the offers a notch higher by giving away free month or months subscription of BlackBerry Chat or BlackBerry Social, giving our subscribers more time to grow their BBM circles or social networks without having to worry about costs,” said Jenny Granada-Echevarria, Head of Globe Mobile Data Services. “The best part is, we are tapping our partner retail outlets to bring these exclusive offers closer to our prepaid market. Now is really the best time to get a BlackBerry device and pair it up with a BlackBerry plan of your choice, so you can stay connected anytime, anywhere at a price that’s within reach.”

The new prepaid promos are exclusively available from Globe and RIM-authorized retail outlets such as Games and Gadgets, Hello, MemoXpress, Power Premium Gadgets, and many more participating sales channels nationwide until October 22, 2012. Other BlackBerry plans available for prepaid subscribers are BlackBerry Messaging which provides users unlimited access to e-mail and various instant messaging sites such as BBM, Yahoo! Messenger, MSN Messenger, Google Talk, ICQ, or AOL Messenger for only P299 valid for 30 days, and BlackBerry Max giving users unlimited access to surfing, social networking, video streaming, e-mail, BBM and instant messaging for P50 valid for 1 day, P220 for 5 days, and P599 for 30 days.

Paving the way for the availability of the innovative data plans and promos is the telco’s massive network modernization program, which gives a better and more quality experience for its growing subscriber base. To date, Globe has successfully upgraded its cell sites in the Davao region giving Davaoenos superior signal quality; as well as fully completed the swap-out of its cell sites and other network facilities in Cebu, ushering in improved coverage and better call set-up and quality in the entire province and the Central Visayas region.
