Eastern Communications strengthens partnership with the education industry

Eastern Communications showed its support to the Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators Foundation In. (PSITE), by joining them as it held their 5th Consultative Assembly, at the Medical Plaza, Ortigas City last June 29, 2012. The theme of the event ‘Outcomes-Based Education in ITE’s”, aimed to inform all members of the organization on how technology can help in educating their students. The event also introduced the PSITE-NCR Officers for 2012-2013, as well as the PSITE-NCR New Members. Eastern will continuously supporting PSITE on their events that aimed to promote better education in the field of Information Technology.

Solving issues of Virtualization and Cloud Computing

As more companies apply IT virtualization to improve operational efficiency, unforeseen issues on the physical infrastructure of data centers crop up, such as cooling and power.

These issues will only spike as shown in a study by AMI-Partners which finds that the SMB cloud market is growing 1.5 times faster than any ICT technology in the Philippines and Asia Pacific region. The study also estimates that a total of US$16.5 billion will be spent on cloud computing solutions among SMEs in the region.

Smart’s official reaction to the NTC press statement

Yesterday, the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) confirmed the network superiority of Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) following the release of the results of its network quality tests for the second quarter of this year which showed Smart posting significantly better test results than Globe Telecom.

Globe, however, issued a statement that attempted to turn the results of the NTC’S Quality of Service Benchmarking Test upside down.

Globe legacy network better than Smart’s upgraded network

A recent network benchmark test conducted by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), comparing the Grade of Service and overall signal quality of both Globe Telecom and Smart Communications against NTC Cellular Mobile Telephone System (CMTS) standards showed the Globe legacy network outperforming competition’s recently modernized network in terms of grade of service. The Globe legacy network also performed at parity with the upgraded network of Smart in almost all other metrics.

Smart Money free remittance launched for OFWs in KSA

Filipinos based in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia can send remittances to the Philippines for free on Sunday, September 23, via Smart Money and its Middle East remittance partner, the National Commercial Bank (NCB).

The free service is being offered as part of National Day celebrations in Saudi Arabia. Smart Money and NCB also waived remittance charges last June 12 as an Independence Day gift to Filipinos.

Power Mac Center rolls out ‘Green Movement’ campaign

WWF-Philippines Vice-Chair and CEO Jose Ma. Lorenzo Tan and PMC CEO Lawrence Sison sign MOA to revive degraded forest areas in the Sierra Madre.

Power Mac Center (PMC) recently rolled out “Green Movement,” its umbrella campaign to help save the environment, with a maiden agroforestry initiative in partnership with the world’s largest and most experienced conservation organization, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

PMC and WWF recently signed a memorandum of agreement to revive degraded forest areas in the Sierra Madre, the Philippines’ longest mountain range and largest protected area.

Smart backs CinePhone campus caravan

Wireless services leader Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) joined the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and director Paul Soriano in going around several campuses to encourage students to submit their entries to the country’s 1st CinePhone Film Festival.

Cinephone – a program of the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) which is administered by the MMDA – is a competition open to all high school and college students who can make 1 to 3 minute-long movies that are completely shot using mobile phones. These movies must adhere to the theme “Restoring Road Courtesy among Motorists and Pedestrians,” and should depict values such as courtesy, discipline, and respect.
