Microsoft unveils the new Office

Microsoft Corp. CEO Steve Ballmer recently unveiled the customer preview of the new Microsoft Office, available at office.com/preview. The next release features an intuitive design that works beautifully with touch, stylus, mouse or keyboard across new Windows devices, including tablets.

The new Office is social and unlocks modern scenarios in reading, note-taking, meetings and communications and will be delivered to subscribers through a cloud service that is always up to date.

JG Summit Holdings Inks Enterprise Agreement with Microsoft Philippines


JG Summit Holdings, Inc., a leading Philippine conglomerate, recently signed an Enterprise Agreement with Microsoft Philippines, the local subsidiary of the world’s leading software manufacturer, to enhance its IT infrastructure and power the business processes of one of the largest conglomerates in the Philippines.

JG Summit Holdings had initially partnered with Microsoft Philippines in the past via its individual core businesses. In April of last year, Cebu Pacific Air entered into an enterprise agreement with Microsoft to implement a host of Microsoft solutions meant to enhance its IT infrastructure. Prior to that, Universal Robina also entered into a similar partnership with Microsoft.

Seton Hall University provides Nokia Lumia 900 to incoming freshmen

Nokia, AT&T, Microsoft and Seton Hall University announced a step forward in Seton Hall’s Mobile Computing Initiative, whereby all incoming freshmen will receive a Nokia Lumia 900 each for extensive use across the university. The entire class of 2016 will receive a Nokia Lumia 900 powered by the Windows Phone 7.5 operating system, to support the university’s mission of providing state of the art technology tools to enhance the student experience and prepare students for success in a rapidly changing world.

“Nokia has a long history of innovation and their partnership with Microsoft allows us to extend the core academic and community resources of the University into the pocket of our students,” noted David Middleton, Executive Director, Center for Mobile Research and Innovation, and Assistant Vice President of Administration at Seton Hall University. Catholic International Education Office chooses office 365 for more than 43 million students globally

The Catholic International Education Office (OIEC) recently entered into an education alliance with Microsoft Corp. to provide Office 365 for its community of Catholic schools across the world as part of a new Social Network for Catholic Education. This will begin with provision of software for 4.5 million students as part of a 3 year alliance plan but in time has the potential to scale across OIEC’s community of more than 43 million Catholic students, at 210,000 schools, in 102 countries. The new network will provide innovative software and services, training and access, to technologies that will better prepare students for the jobs of the future.

OIEC’s mission includes the promotion of education for all, collaboration within academic communities, and the fight against illiteracy worldwide. In an ever-evolving technology landscape, educators in the 21st century face continuing challenges to build skills among teachers, and provide students with the tools and knowledge they need to be successful. Working closely with schools around the globe for more than 20 years, Microsoft has a deep appreciation for these challenges. Based on experience, Microsoft currently takes a holistic approach to working with schools, one that’s focused on improving educational outcomes for both students and educators that will have the greatest impact in the classroom.

Windows phone marketplace now available in the Philippines

Consumers and developers in the Philippines can now access local and global top apps and games with the expansion of Microsoft’s Windows Phone Marketplace. The Philippines is one of 28 new consumer markets where Windows Phone Marketplace has recently been made available.

Microsoft Philippines Supports the first Startup Weekend in Cebu to help Spur Technopreneurship in the Visayas

The first-ever Startup Weekend event in Cebu offers opportunities for local startups in the Visayas region to network with founders and jointly pursue the most promising ideas. As Microsoft Philippines aims to further support local developers and startup entrepreneurs, the IT leader has once again collaborated with other major companies to sponsor and co-organize another Startup Weekend event, this time in Cebu. Startup Weekend: Cebu (SWC) happens from May 11 to 13 at the University of the Philippines, Cebu.

Microsoft Philippines Creates Synergies to Aid Micro Financing and Community Projects

The National Confederation of Cooperatives (Natcco) recently forged a partnership with Microsoft Value Added Reseller Ng-Khai Development Corporation in an effort to provide its members access to reliable and certified technology.

Natcco is the biggest and strongest federation of cooperatives in the Philippines, in terms of geographical reach, membership, financial capacity and array of services.  Now with 1.9 million individual members and 500 member cooperatives, Nattco recognizes the need to use IT solutions to support its activities and programs that promote livelihood and other business solutions among member-cooperatives.  Nattco President Rey Gandionco shared the rationale behind the partnership.  “As we have continuously searched for IT solutions that will fuel the livelihood programs and other business solutions, we saw that Microsoft gave us a good deal, an opportunity to make our system and services reliable for every cooperative member,” said Gandionco.

Filipino Teachers make history in Microsoft Regional Education Forum

Besting 60 teachers from all over Asia Pacific, three Filipinos emerged victorious in this year’s Partners in Learning Regional Education Forum conducted by Microsoft in Auckland, New Zealand. This is the first in the history of the Regional Forum that all the representatives of the country win.

Participated in by 14 countries, 63 teachers competed for one country winner each and six categories namely Extended Learning Beyond the Classroom; Collaboration; Knowledge Building & Critical Thinking; Innovation in Challenging Contexts; Cutting Edge Use of Microsoft Technology for Learning; and Educators’ Choice. This forum aims to drive collaboration among educators and school leaders in promoting innovative programs.
