Canon EOS system celebrates 25th anniversary

Canon Inc. announced this March the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Canon’s EOS (Electro Optical System). The EOS system debuted in March 1987 by launching EOS 650 SLR camera and three interchangeable EF lenses including the EF35-70mm f/3.5-4.5.

During the film-camera era, EOS SLR cameras garnered high acclaim from a wide range of users for their innovative technologies and designs focused on Canon’s key concepts of high speed and ease of use. During this period, the company launched the top-of-the-line professional-model EOS-1 in 1989 and, with the introduction of the compact, lightweight EOS 500 (EOS Rebel XS and EOS Kiss in other regions) in 1993.

Canon Photographers unite for Banaue Rice Terraces rehabilitation

The Ifugao Rice Terraces, one of the Philippines’ most popular landmarks, has suffered severe damages due to the recent typhoons that visited the country. Several government and non-government groups have contributed on the rehabilitation of the site, including imaging giant Canon.

Canon Marketing Philippines volunteer employees, Canon Advocacy Team volunteer photographers and other individuals who recognize the need for action to revive the rice terraces will be travelling to the site itself to kick start the campaign.  Through efforts by Canon EOS Ambassador John Chua, volunteers will now be able to meet and interact with the local residents and work together to help rebuild the terraces.  But more than just helping to rebuild the national landmark, Canon hopes that this small step will help to revive the traditional Filipino spirit and culture of working together-“bayanihan”.

Kuya Kim takes his camera to the wild

Viewers across the country know him for getting too close with nature’s most menacing creatures like snakes and crocs. But Alejandro “Kim” Atienza, or Kuya Kim as he is most affectionately called, also prefers to look at wildlife through a viewfinder.

The former voice dubber now weatherman, broadcast journalist, program host, popular trivia buff and new Canon ImageNation endorser also takes pride in being an avid photographer even as a young boy.

300 Canon EOS users get free advanced photography training

Three hundred Canon EOS camera users were treated to free specialized photography workshops by imaging leader Canon and some of the country’s top photographers during the first PhotoSkwela Pro at the SM Megamall Megatrade Hall in Mandaluyong City.

“This event is an advanced version of PhotoSkwela designed to further improve the skills of our loyal Canon EOS users,” said Bong Serevo, Vice-President and Director of the Image Communications Products division of Canon Marketing Philippines, Inc. (CMPI). PhotoSkwela is a series of free workshops on basic and advanced photography, videography and scrapbook making.
