YouTube and Emirates to find the World’s Best Storytellers in Your Film Festival 2012

YouTube and Emirates, in partnership with La Biennale di Venezia (the Venice Film Festival) and Scott Free, announced today Your Film Festival – a global competition to find the world’s best storytellers, connect them with a global audience, and provide one deserving entrant with a career-changing opportunity.

Content creators around the world are invited to submit a 15-minute, story-driven video of any format, style and genre, to Youtube.com/yourfilmfestival.  After submissions are whittled down to 50 semi-finalists, audiences from around the world will cast their votes, choosing ten finalists. The ten finalists will travel to Italy, where their work will screen at the 69th Venice International Film Festival in August.   A grand prize winner will then be named by a special jury and awarded a $500,000 YouTube original production grant to work with Scott Free, ultimately creating a brand new work for the world to see.

Xtreme Java is a mobile app development competition among universities and colleges in the Philippines organized by De La Salle University, in collaboration with Nokia. It allows college-level students, in teams of 2-3 members with 1 mentor, to develop and publish their own utility game and location-based applications and receive great prizes.

2,000 compete in Canon PhotoMarathon

Canon staged its sixth and largest PhotoMarathon with more than 2,000 professional and amateur photographers competing in the final leg of the event at the Philippine Trade Training Center in Pasay City.

Jerome Ross Lacbayan of Cainta was declared winner of the DSLR category and received a DSLR EOS 5D Mark II while Jackielou Garcera of Cubao, the top pick in the point-and-shoot level, received a DSLR EOS 600D. Both grand champions were also given round trip tickets to Busan, South Korea.

Two Student Teams to Represent the Philippines in the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2011 World Finals in New York

Besting over 350,000 entries from all over the world, two teams from the Philippines, Signum Fidei and Polymor.ph, have qualified for the Microsoft Imagine Cup 2011 World Finals, which will take place in New York City this coming July 8 to 13.

Spearheaded by Microsoft Corporation, the Imagine Cup is the world’s premiere student technology competition that gathers the best developers around the world and harnesses the creative minds of the youth to address problems faced by the world today using the power of information technology. This year, the various entries of the students deal with humanitarian issues inspired by the United Nations Millennium Development Goals like health, environment, education and accessibility.
