Huawei donates $10,000 to DepEd mobile classroom project; Globe to facilitate implementation

Huawei Philippines has donated $10,000 to the mobile classroom project of the Department of Education (DepEd) in Mindanao even as it tapped leading telecommunications company Globe Telecom to facilitate implementation. Huawei is the technical partner of Globe in its ongoing $700-million network modernization program.

“Huawei would like to give back to the community where it is doing business. We aim to contribute to nation building by participating in worthwhile initiatives involving education and the conservation of the environment. We believe that participating in this project is aligned with that vision,” said Albert Antig, Director, Huawei Philippines.

DepEd and HP’s Write& Read Workshop opens a world of creative and dynamic storytelling to students

2009 CNN Hero of the Year and HP Write&Read Ambassador Efren Peñaflorida inspires kids to hone their skills in writing and reading at the HP Write&Read Workshop held recently at SM North Annex Activity Center.

The country’s most promising young writers from various schools in Metro Manila recently converged at the Write&Read Workshop, an educational event conducted by Hewlett-Packard Philippines (HP), in partnership with the Department of Education-NCR (DepEd-NCR). A major part in HP’s A+ campaign, the workshop offered talented writers with a series of activities aimed at raising enthusiasm for the two fundamental pillars of education, writing and reading.

The Write&Read Workshop utilized different tools including educational games and hands-on teaching techniques to hone the participants’ creativity in story writing and visual storytelling.

INTEL ISEF 2012: Ingenuity knows no age, innovation knows no bounds

Being handpicked to represent the country is a rare privilege only the best and the brightest enjoy. Each year, young achievers in the field of science and engineering are given the opportunity to share the fruits of their research with a global audience. Given the unparalleled prestige of the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), the premier international science competition for students in grades 9 – 12, those who make the cut are undoubtedly worth their salt.

Driven by a shared vision to create awareness of prevalent social, ecological and economic issues, eight of the Philippines’ best students were chosen to represent the country at the 2012 Intel ISEF. The students will compete in two team categories and two individual categories in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on May 13-18.

Text2Teach connects students to a more interactive learning environment

Almost 57,000 grades 5 and 6 students in public elementary schools are now learning using mobile technology, thanks to a program called Text2Teach, which aims to alleviate educational problems in the country.

This update was announced by Nikka Abes, Corporate Communications Manager, Nokia Philippines, who also explained that Text2Teach explores the usage of mobile phones as teaching tools for elementary students. “We wanted to create a more interactive learning environment for students. By using Nokia’s Education Delivery technology (NED), we could provide schools with effective visual aids on Grade 5 and 6 Math, Science and English subjects through 3G-enabled devices.”

DepEd, Microsoft Team Up for Brigada Eskwela 2011

Microsoft volunteers who participated in the Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela 2011 program at the Cayetano Arellano Elementary School in Caloocan City

Volunteers from Microsoft Philippines recently joined the Department of Education (DepEd) in its Brigada Eskwela 2011 program to clean, repaint, and repair the main building of the Cayetano Arellano Elementary School in Caloocan City before classes start this June.

Over 86 Microsoft employees, staff and partners, along with some of the volunteers from the Cayetano Arellano Elementary School and DepEd cleaned and painted classrooms, hallways, and stairways of the main building, which is composed of three floors and six classrooms.
