Globe completes first phase of Cebu network modernization

Globe Telecom said it has completed the swap-out of its cell sites and other network facilities in Cebu as part of the company’s massive $700-million modernization program across the Philippines.

The cell site cluster swap-out in Cebu ushers in improved coverage, reduced drop call rates as well as better call set-up and quality in the entire province and the Central Visayas region. The area has also been primed for switching-on of 4G HSPA+ (Evolved High-Speed Packet Access) technology and is also ready to upgrade to 4G LTE (Long-Term Evolution) technology.

Globe $700-M network modernization to support old and new mobile technologies

Old and new subscribers of Globe Telecom can expect better and improved call, text, and data services under the massive $700-million network modernization program which the country’s leading telecommunications company is currently undertaking.

Globe President and CEO Ernest L. Cu also allayed fears that the network change-out to 4G will impact subscribers using older technology devices.

Huawei CEO, MVP discuss modernization of Smart cellular network

Eric Xu, Vice Chair and CEO of Huawei recently met with PLDT and Smart Communications Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan to discuss the progress of the ongoing modernization of Smart’s mobile phone network, which company officials say is entering its final phases and will be completed by mid-2012. Huawei is one of the world’s top three leading global providers of commercial telecom networks, that Smart has tapped for the total overhaul of its cellular network. The other two are Nokia Siemens Network and Ericsson. Huawei is handling the modernization of Smart’s network in the Visayas, Mindanao and Bicol regions. This involves the replacement of existing radio base station equipment with state-of-the-art facilities that enable Smart to expand its 3G network and rapidly deploy fourth-generation (4G) mobile phone technologies such as HSPA+ and Long Term Evolution (LTE). Aside from extending the reach and speed of its mobile Internet services, Smart’s modernization program will also strengthen its voice call and SMS services and raise the overall quality of its services.

Smart modernization to increase capacity, aims for country’s greenest network

Smart’s network modernization program, initiated way ahead of competition, is already capable of providing up to 200 percent additional capacity on a “push-button” approach or when needed to meet the demands of customers. In spite of the significant increase in capacity, energy cost for the completed sites across the country has decreased by an average of 20.54 percent for the second half of 2011.

“Our subscribers will experience the benefits of additional capacity in the enhanced quality of our voice, SMS and broadband services, especially once we complete the testing and optimization of our modernized sites,” said Smart Chief Wireless Advisor Orlando Vea.
