WD Delivers System Storage to the Metro Manila Development Authority

Western Digital, a world’s leader in the design and manufacture of hard drives, recently announced their cooperation with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to provide 28 TB of WD AV-GP hard disk drives for an additional storage system for MMDA’s 24×7 operation.

One of the most critical services that MMDA offers is the Transport and Traffic Management, under the Traffic and Discipline Office. This division of the MMDA is responsible for overseeing traffic conditions as well as the enforcement of traffic rules and regulations all over Metro Manila. It has installed CCTV cameras over the main roads of Metro Manila to view live video feeds of traffic conditions in order to provide up-to-the-minute traffic advisories to motorists, using social media platforms, such as Twitter and Facebook, as well as through television.

Seagate Technology reports fiscal second quarter 2012 financial results

Seagate Technology reported financial results for the quarter ended December 30, 2011. The company shipped 47 million disk drives and reported revenue of $3.2 billion, gross margin of 31.6%, net income of $563 million and diluted earnings per share of $1.28. On a non-GAAP basis, which excludes the net impact of certain items, Seagate reported net income of $581 million and diluted earnings per share of $1.32 for the quarter ended December 30, 2011.

For the six months ended December 30, 2011, the company reported revenue of $6.0 billion, gross margin of 26.0%, net income of $703 million and diluted earnings per share of $1.61. On a non-GAAP basis, which excludes the net impact of certain items, Seagate reported net income of $727 million and diluted earnings per share of $1.67. Seagate returned $151 million to shareholders in the form of a dividend and repurchased $191 million of Seagate ordinary shares which equates to approximately 13 million ordinary shares.

A Consumer Electronics Association Innovations Honoree, the GoFlex Satellite mobile wireless storage will be on display in the Innovations Hall located in the Venetian Ballroom of the Venetian Hotel. Seagate will demonstrate during CES new enhancements and added features that improve on the popular award-winning product. First introduced in May of 2011, the GoFlex Satellite drive is Wi-Fi enabled storage to wirelessly stream media to multiple mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets simultaneously.

Dell Launches New Generation of Dell EqualLogic Storage Solutions

Dell announced new Dell EqualLogic storage solutions and supporting software to help customers address the data management requirements of increasingly dynamic, virtualized data centers. The company also released details of new integration across its storage portfolio with the forthcoming VMware vSphere 5 virtualization and cloud infrastructure platform.

“Organizations of all sizes continue to place a priority on boosting IT asset efficiency while improving IT responsiveness to business pressures. Ever greater exploitation of virtualization is a key element in these efforts, and the deployment of flexible and intelligent storage systems is frequently the key to successful efforts,” said Richard Villars, vice president of storage and IT Strategies at IDC.

WD Introduces 6 TB External Hard Drive to Support Increased HD Content Creation

Western Digital introduced its My Book Studio Edition II dual-drive storage system with a massive 6 terabytes (TB) of storage to meet the capacity needs of today’s creative pros and Mac enthusiasts who create, store, edit and archive large HD video and photo files. WD’s New My Book Studio Drive Mac Aesthetics and Performs to Creative Pro Standards

Western Digital announced that its newest generation of the popular My Book Studio external hard drives are designed for use with Mac computers and Apple Time Machine. Now available with a 3 TB storage capacity, the new design features a brushed aluminum casing to match the appearance of a Mac computer, and also serves to keep the drive cool while in use. The aluminum exterior, combined with its WD Caviar Green drives, eliminates the need for an internal fan to reduce drive noise and extend the life of the drive.
