Technology brings Calungsod celebration to the world

Devotee with iPad. Strong connectivity provided by Smart and parent firm PLDT ensured easy posting of pictures on Twitter and Instagram. The 80 or so images of patron saints on carrozas that formed part of the procession and later set up at the shrine were among the most posted images online.

Braving the heat of the afternoon sun, 28-year-old Leslie Anna Cantutay joined the procession from downtown Cebu City to the South Road Properties (SRP), where a thanksgiving Mass was to be said at a new shrine dedicated to the second Filipino saint, Pedro Calungsod.

Along the way and at the site, she took pictures of the celebration, especially the re-enactment of the saint’s voyage to the Marianas Islands through a fluvial procession featuring a galleon-like vessel carrying his image. It was historic day, and she wanted her husband, who works in Japan, to be part of it. So she posted pictures on her Facebook account.

Power Mac Center supplies technology to PH schools

Power Mac Center (PMC) gains headway in its advocacy to transform for the better, the country’s education through the use of technology.

The country’s largest chain of Apple Resellers has just delivered hundreds of iPad 2 to two premiere private schools in the country, namely, the De La Salle Santiago Zobel School (DLSZ) and the Saint Paul University Surigao campus (SPU).

Excited DLSZ faculty, students, and even the latter’s parents received their order of 500 units of iPad 2 from no less than the PMC Education Team led by Education Sales Manager Luci Nuñez.

SAP launches first Startup Focus Program for Southeast Asia

SAP has announced the launch of the SAP Startup Forum in Singapore on 6 September 2012. The program, which is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia, will help startup companies to scale their business through the adoption and development of new applications on SAP HANA, a real-time data platform.

The invite-only event offers startups the opportunity to create easy-to-access solutions to manage ‘big data’ in real-time with SAP HANA. By offering businesses greater access to the benefits of SAP HANA’s open platform, powerful processing speed, ability to handle ‘big data’ and innovative next-generation applications, SAP will help Southeast Asian businesses run better.

Cognizant opens second Delivery Center in the Philippines to support rapid growth

Cognizant, a leading provider of information technology, consulting, and business process outsourcing services, recently announced that it has expanded its presence in the Philippines with the opening of a new delivery center in Pasig City, Metro Manila.

The center, located in the IT-BPO services hub, Ortigas Center, will accommodate approximately 1,000 professionals, and will deliver a full range of applications, IT infrastructure, and business process services to global clients in the financial services, healthcare, manufacturing and logistics, retail, hospitality, telecommunications, and consumer goods industries.
Cognizant started operations in the Philippines in December 2009 to provide business process services to global clients, and has since grown to more than 700 professionals delivering a broad range of services from the company’s existing facilities in Manila. In April 2011, Cognizant won the prestigious Philippines’ International ICT Award for Best New BPO Locator of the Year. Cognizant is working closely with academia in the Philippines to develop talent across a full range of services, and has an active campus recruitment program in the country.

As part of its corporate social responsibility program, Cognizant is running several community initiatives. Annual Accenture report predicts critical business impacts of six technology trends topping the CIO agenda

Information technology leaders stand to drive new revenue streams for their businesses by leveraging “context-based services,” an emerging technology trend where real world and digital data are aggregated to understand “who you are, where you are, and what you are doing” to give consumers an “extremely rich experience,” according to a new report from Accenture.

Accenture identifies context-based services as one of six key trends in its Technology Vision 2012, an annual outlook of the most important emerging technology trends that are predicted to have a critical impact on businesses. Accenture has been researching and predicting the future of technology trends for more than a decade.
